The Ballad of Billy Elliott

It’s a warm afternoon, late spring. 1952, or thereabouts. A young William Elliott strolls out across the meadows near his humble home in rural Derbyshire. In the scented breeze, he picks wild flowers – a gift for his intended. Ox-eye daisies, meadow cranesbill, buttercups. With that nervous lump in his throat that we’ve all experienced, he knocks on her door. Maybe, just maybe, she would accompany him to the school dance?
(Based on a true story)
